The JJN Digital CAM-GX5 is a professional handheld cellular activity monitor manufactured in the United Kingdom. It is designed to detect and locate active radio transmissions generated by mobile phones, GPS trackers and wireless surveillance devices.

The CAM-GX5 monitors the frequency bands used by 2G, 3G, 4G and Sub-6 GHz 5G networks. It also includes dedicated detection modes for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals operating on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

It can detect transmissions generated by:

  • Mobile phones and smartphones
  • GSM and cellular GPS trackers
  • GSM listening devices
  • Wireless 3G, 4G and 5G cameras
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices
  • Mobile hotspots
  • Store-and-forward surveillance devices
  • SMS activity and short digital transmission bursts

Each detected event can be recorded with its date, time, duration, frequency band and signal strength. Stored information can be displayed as an event list or graph and downloaded to a USB flash drive for further analysis and reporting.

Each monitored band has an individual 20-level signal-strength indicator, helping the operator progressively locate the source. Audible beep and silent vibration modes are also available.

Important Technical Notes

The CAM-GX5 detects active radio transmissions. It does not directly identify the exact device model or analyse the transmitted content.

A GPS tracker or surveillance device operating in standby mode can only be detected when it transmits. The event log is therefore particularly useful for identifying short, repetitive bursts that may be associated with cellular tracking devices.

The term “5G Ready” refers to 5G signals within the detector’s operating range of up to 6 GHz. The published specifications do not confirm detection of 5G mmWave signals above 24 GHz.

The advertised 50-metre detection distance is a maximum figure. Actual performance depends on transmitter power, building or vehicle shielding, antenna position, environmental RF noise and the distance between the transmitting device and the cellular base station or Wi-Fi access point.
